A friend has an old computer running Win95. He intends to buy a new
one after the holidays, which will probably run XP.

Can he use Direct Cable Connection (DCC) to transfer files from his
old to his new machine? Is DCC supported under XP? Is it available
as an optional install on the XP installation disks?

C'ya.

Hi,

You can "Make new connection" and choose "Setup advance connection" and
choose the connection by Serial/parallel/Infrared/.

Yes, he can do this. I did the same thing. Full instructions are at
http://www.lpt.com/Support/DCC-SetUp/dcc-setup.htm Scroll down to the
section "Windows XP Guest to Windows 9x/Me Host". You need a $20 dcc cable
which you can get from the same place under Products.
