DC and DNS server: how to get external addresses?

I have a W2K DC which is also DNS. In DNS it says it is a 'root server' and
so does not allow forwarding.

How do I set up DC DNS so that it is still primary DNS for clients, but they
can still resolve outside domain names from other DNS? (When I simply add
secondary DNS, that doesn't work.. seems like it doesn't check past the DC
DNS.)

thanks

If I'm following you correctly you need to delete the "." (dot) forward
lookup zone that is created by default. This will enable you to set
forwarders. You may have to refresh the DNS snapin..
