Hello guys, I ve got this problem on a SBS 2000 DC with sp4 :

1655 -
Source NTDS General
Type Warning
Description The attempt to communicate with global catalog \\<server name>
failed with the following status: <status message> The operation in progress
might be unable to continue. The directory service will use the locator to
try find an available global catalog server for the next operation that
requires one. The record data is the status code.

1126
Source Active Directory
Type Error
Description Unable to establish connection with global catalog.

1000 :
Source Userenv
Type Error
Description Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your
computer network. Return value (<error code>).

If I run DCdiag I get :
DC Diagnosis
Performing initial setup:
[DC1] LDAP bind failed with error 31

on netdiag I get:

DC list test . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
[WARNING] Cannot call DsBind to <my domain> (my IP).
[SEC_E_WRONG_PRINCIPAL]
List of DCs in Domain 'DOMAIN':

IF I run REPADMIN /SHOWREPS I get :
[d:\nt\private\ds\src\util\repadmin\repinfo.c, 389] LDAP error 82 (Local
Error).

I have already tried this 837513, and 318170

Any help ?

I experienced this with a DC in a virtual environment. after logging
on I could see all kinds of services did not start. Manually starting
the services did not solve the problem. Rebooting the DC did.

Well all service are up and running (apart those that requires startup
credential different than local system) and I have rebooted many times while
trying to fix it and nothing changed.

I m prolly going to try and restore a previous system state tomorrow

Was anything changed or installed recently, such as a Windows update or any
type of update, or anything else prior to this happening?
