Dates in Excel

In a column I need month and year. When I put in the
month, it is accepted, but the year defaults to 04
regardless of what year is typed in What do I need to
change. Thanks

How are you typing in your dates?

It's also relevant to ask what your Regional Settings are.
 
When you do your data entry, what are you typing in?

Maybe excel is treating your "month/year" as "month/day".

I find it easiest to use mm/dd/yyyy (all three components) and just format it
the way I want later.

(If the day doesn't matter, I'll use mm/01/yyyy.)
