Date functuion.

Hi,
I have four cells. Month, Year, Date and weekday
cell. I got the month cell and year cell are set as the
current month and year.
How and What is the function of the first date of the
month for the Date cell and the Weekday for the weekday
cell that relate to the date cell?

first day of the current month
=DATE(YEAR(NOW()),MONTH(NOW()),1)

the weekday (mon, tue, wed etc?) of this
=TEXT(DATE(YEAR(NOW()),MONTH(NOW()),1),"ddd")
