date format

How do I keep a date in the format Sep 08 (for september 2008)? Excel keeps
changing it to 01/09/2008.
 
You can apply a custom format of:

mmm yy

to the cell.

Alternatively, pre-format the cell as Text, or enter as 'Sep 08 - the
apostrophe tells Excel to treat the entry as text, but it will not
show in the cell.
