date cell from lotus is not working

Hello,
i am converting lotus files to excel however in some date cells when i
imput ie: 05/24/2004 the date is changed to 01/01/1900 in exell. There is
an = sign in the formula bar at the top. I have tried changing the cell
format, deleting the column, and entering a new one etc. nothing works.

Go to Tools=>Options=>Transition Tab and at the bottom of the dialog under
Sheet Options, uncheck Transition Formula Entry

If that doesn't fix it, uncheck Transition Formula Evaluation
