=Date( ) causes a prompt

Hi,

I've had a database working fine for a few years now, all of a sudden
whereever I have =date() it is returning Name? in my report. It is also
prompting me for "Date" along with the other prompts from the query. Any
idea why this is happening?? I've deleted the date field and replaced it -
that did not work. Thanks
