Date and Time, No Date

When I look at the task bar, it shows only the time. I'd like it to show
the day of the week too. Often hovering over it with the mouse does
nothing, which causes me to then open the dialog to find out.

No, it will only ever show you the time in hours and minutes *only*!

If you want the clock to show more than that, there's a very small (47Kb) program
that can make it do all sorts including define what pops up on mouse-hover and
displaying the date / seconds in the taskbar.

Then download the [free] program TClock.exe from :

You have two choices:

1. Drag the Task to being two lines wide.

2. Download and install a freeware program that shows the date as well
as the time. There are several such programs, but the one I recommend
is Tclock (note that the often recommended TClockex is a different,
and not as good, program).

HUH?

I have XP on my laptop, and with a double-high taskbar, it shows time
on top, the day beneath, and the date beneath that - and I don't have
Tclock or "ex" installed.

12hr time
is selected).

Therefore, you simply *must* have some pre-installed application installed, or you
are *not* running Windows XP!

I can gaaaar-ohn-TEE you that it's running XP. I've been using PCs
since DOS 3.x and although I'm no expert, I at least know what OS I'm
running.

Perhaps Toshiba laptops come with such a utility pre-installed.

Sorry, Tim, but that's not correct. See my first suggestion, quoted
below. Have you tried it?

You are absolutely wrong Tim! I don't have anything but XP installed and if
I triple the task bar
I get time, day and date. Doubling the task bar gives time and day.

If you slide the Taskbar to double height it will show the day and date
along with the time. But then you will have a big ugly taskbar taking
up more real estate on the desktop...

With the taskbar only double-high, I see three lines of time/date:
3:20PM

maybe something to do with your regional settings?
I know I altered mine, or at least the time format.

If you had bothered to read my first reply to this thread, you would have
noticed that I actually included the direct download link to TClock which I
recommended before you sent your first reply.

I meant and still say that it is not possible to display anything but the current
hours and minutes (plus am /pm if 12hr selected) in NATIVE Windows settings.

You NEED a 3rd-party app - like TClock!

I don't see a way to widen it. Properties is of no help. I'd rather not

I can only say that I was a little confused by an earlier thread I was involved with,
where the OP was asking about displaying *seconds* in the Taskbar clock.

I can guarantee that this is *not* possible with native Windows settings and does
require the use of a 3rd-party application to display seconds.

But I was wrong about displaying the date and for this I must apologise, as I have
attempted to do so with the other posters in this thread.

But I'm glad you tried it and saw that I was right.
