Date and Time Calculations

What would my formula and format of cells be for calculating hours between dates and times.
Ex. Start Time- 1/1/04 8:00 AM and End Time 1/3/04 5:00 PM. An example of the formula and format of each cell for this equation would be greatly appreciated.

with
A1: Start time
B1: End time

format target cell with the custom format [h]:mm
