date and pictures wont show unless im in read mode?

im using MS word 2003. when i put in day and Date it comes up as a link
instead of the date. if i copy and past a picture from another sourse it just
comes up as a hyperlink unless i go to "read mode" and then picture and date
shows however it will not print? I never had any of these problems with the
older version of words
