datalabel box is too small

The information in my datalabel text box is too long for the datalabel text
box. If I change the font to a smaller one you can't read it. The text box
shows up if I right click it but I cannot increase the size of it. The box
handles do not seem to work.

Those box handles are merely decoration, and do not let you change the size
of the labels (or chart and axis titles either). You could enlarge the chart
to widen the labels, but that's not a great option. You could replace the
labels with text boxes, which do allow resizing and linking to a cell, but
these do not move with the points if the data changes.
