DataGridView - readonly cell

Mark

I have a DataGridView with a bound column that has a read-only property of
False. The I can't enter text into the cell. My data adapter is setup for
updates. What would prevent the cell from me typing text into the cell that
is supposedly editable?

Thanks in advance!

Correct. If read-only was true, I would expect I would not be able to type
into the cell. If read-only was false, as it is in my control, I would
expect to be able to get a cursor. There appears to be a read-only property
at both the column and datagridview level. Both are set to false. I have
no click-events that would potentially impact this situation.

Thanks again.

Ah, sorry. I was interpreting the sentence incorrectly. When you said that
it "has a read only property of false" I thought you were saying that it had
a read-only *property*, and that the property was false (such as a CheckBox
column having a false value), indicating that it (the column)could not be
written to. What you *were* saying was that the *ReadOnly* property of the
column was false, meaning that the column was *not* read-only. My apologies!

Can you give a little information about what type of column it is? Is it a
DataGridViewTextBoxColumn?

Hi Mark,

Based on my understanding, you have a DataGridView control bound to a data
source and have set the ReadOnly property of a bound column in the
DataGridView control to False. However, you can't edit the cells of that
column. If I'm off base, please feel free to correct me.

If the underlying data source has been set to readonly, we couldn't modify
the cells in the DataGridView control.

What data source is your DataGridView control bound? If it is a datatable,
I suggest that you check if the data column in the datatable has been set
to readonly. To do this, open the datatable in the designer and select the
data columns in the datatable. You could see the ReadOnly property of the
selected data column in the Properties window.

If the data source is a collection,e.g. List<T>, you may check if the
property of the business class that is bound to the DataGridView column is
a readonly property.

Hope this helps.
If you have anything unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,
Linda Liu
