I use littlelists at http://www.rkwest.com/downloads.shtml
At least it does what I need adminrably, and it is easily accessible to Open
Office.

I use little lists in conjunction with dbfTools (which is freeware).
Dbftools is great for editing and sorting, but you cannot create databases
with it and that's where I like to use littlelists.

dBworx at http://www.plworx.net may be worth a look - although it's not a
dBaseIII+ compatible program.

Dollybase at Sourceforge.net (try dollybase.sourceforge.net) is free
but for BSD and Linux only. It is in alpha stage currently.

Not in the traditional sense. These people are making their stuff freeware:

"A few of our free programs still think they are shareware. They will show
an evaluation period and will expect you to enter a user name and
registration code.


"Please understand we cannot provide technical support for free programs.
We do not intend to update our free software further. If you find a free
program useful or enjoyable, please feel free to keep it. If you try it and
do not like it, simply delete it from your system."

They have some interesting and weird stuff, in addition to the database. A
Mayan calendar, for example.
