Database ownership

Hi guys,

I created a new database from which I am the only user in the admin group
and copied all my objects from a database which I was not the owner. I
compiled the code so I don't recieve the "not connected" error message when i
reopen. Then I checked the owner of the database and all objects and it says
it's me. But when I close Access and reopen the new database, the owner is
unknown and the change owner button is inactive. Any suggestions???

Thanks,
Matt

When Access says the owner is <unknown> that means the user that created the
database is not a member of the workgroup information file that the database
was created under. Check to see the user name that you are logged in under.
The change owner button will always be deactivated when the object you have
selected is Database. It's not possible to change the owner of the database
through the user interface.

Hi Lynn. Sorry I still don't understand. I open the new database via a
shortcut using the workgroup.MDW file I created and when I open the database
I log in using my user id and password. How can i "Check to see the user
name that you are logged in under."? -Thanks

Sorry. let me give you more detail and hopefully you can give me advice to
help my situation. I log into access using my MDW file to which I (user)
have admin rights. I create a new database, copy opbjects, check database
and object permissions - i am the owner. then I close access and when i
reopen
using the same mdw file and log in using my id and password, I check the
permissions and I am not the owner anymore. Any ideas??? Thanks.

What is the syntax of your shortcut? Somehow, you must be in a different
workgroup. To check who you are logged in as go to Tools > Security > User
And Group Permissions. At the bottom of the screen it should show you the
Current User.
