Database opens to gray screen with toolbar on top but no form

I have an Access 2003 DB which works fine on my computer. It's a split DB.
Works fine on some computers but not others. When the DB tries to open it
shows only the toolbar at the top, with limited selections, and the rest is a
big gray blank. The form being called is a password form with no ties to a
table. On some computers the shift key will bypass and some it won't. I
checked versions to make sure they were the same. I even remote desktop'd to
my computer and it still won't work. I know it has to be some type of setup
on each machine, but what?? I'm really stumped.
Thanks,

This may not be your problem but your statement, access 2003 and works on
some PC's not on others rings alarm bells.

Can you check the Office service pack on each machine?

In the database, help about microsoft office should show the service pack
installed?

If your working PC, are SP2 and the none working SP3, read on, else sorry to
have wasted your time. (End If :)

SP3 for office has many known issues relating to Access. Normally this is
Combo or List boxes but some other issue arise where the database closes or
fails, forms fail to open, out of memory failures etc etc.

Take a look at

Hot fix here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/945674

Like I said, if this is not the issue, I applogise and hope you sort the
issue soon.

I was also going to add

http://allenbrowne.com/casu-20.html
Which gives a load of reasons forms do not open but because you say there is
no table or query associated with your form, this is unlikely.

Please let me know how you get on?????

What do I look for? What option would start on one machine and not on
another. I believe options are for all DBs on that machine, but startup
items are individual to the DB. I do have the Display Database Window
unchecked so I can hide the DB's main menu with smaller forms. As I say, it
works fine on some PCs. Could this have to do with the version of windows xp?

Hi Bob, sorry that did not solve your problems. its well worth bearing the
SP3 issue for when you do impliment the upgrade.

Further to Arvin's post, I think those settings relate to the front end
Globally but its well worth checking them out, if Alvin thinks it worth it,
he has a reason for saying so. Also check the Tools options settings but
again, I cannot think why any settings would affect certain Pc's and have no
effect on others.

This thread is getting a little far down the News Group, it may be as well
to repost the same question and hope some of the others have some ideas.

FYI
As it turns out, it was a simple solution. I didn't have the main database
maximized and because one of my forms being a popup, and me using 2 monitors,
the form ended up off screen the main screen. When brought up on 1 screen,
and with no slider at the bottom to indicate anything, the window was
literally off screen. This is one of several peculiatities I've noticed when
using 2 screens. Lesson Learned: keep the main screen maximized or
minimized, but not in a reduced windows state.
Thanks for everyones suggestions.
