Database Not Opening

J

Jay

All,
Co-workers and I built an Access database that was located in a
shared folder on our company's LAN. Each of us could open the database and
update records simultaneously. Today, two folks had the database open when
I tried to open it. I double clicked on the database and all that happened
was that the Access application opened; the database did not open. Several
attempts resulted in the same thing. When I asked my co-workers to close
the database on their computers and attempt to reopen it, they had the same
results--Access launched but no database. We tried every way we knew to
open a file with no success.
The database base seems to be there (17 Mb worth) but we can't open
it. Any suggestions about how we can retrieve the database and/or prevent
this from happening in the future would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

Jay,
Pretty near impossible to say what happened for sure.
Have you tried opening the mdb while holding the Shift key. That allows
Access to open the mdb, but not allow any "autoexec" type code (code that
always runs at mdb startup).
You may be able to open it that way... then check out Compact and Repair
if you get that far.
