Let's start with first things first. What exactly do you want it to do?
* Record all maintenance
Car **
Date
Cost
Who did it **
What parts replaced
Notes.
* Record all fuel purchases
Date
Odometer reading
Gallons
Where purchased **
Type of fuel (high octane?) ***
Notes (like driving conditions)
** Good candidate for a parent child relationship in a child table
*** Good candidate for either a parent child table or a binary (yes-no)
filed type
Add your own additional ideas. Deciding what you want it to do should
come first. Don't forget to consider any and all ideas.
You can use this design to compute both the most recent mileage (when
you purchase fuel) and the average since new, or this year or whatever.
