Database for Min:sec, mathematical treatment

Is there a way to have a field for time data, where I can enter Min:sec or
Hour:Min:sec and then have mathematical averages?

I seem to see only Date/Time or Text, or Numbers as field possibilities.
currently our guys were using "text" and entering 1.30 for one minute 30
seconds, and obviously, these would not average out properly mathematically
when entered in decimal format.

Not sure about entering the time, however, if the answer is not favorable,
you could try a cross-reference table breaking down each minute into seconds,
and the decimal equivalent. then break up the entry from 1.30 to a minute
field, and a seconds field.

When they enter 30 you actually save the entry as 1.5. Then you can average.
