ciao, j.
Firebrid is a database system, but AFAIK without a userinterface. You can
make tables, views and queries, but no reports and forms. Though there are
seperate programs that can do this, but the real power of MS Access (IMHO)
is the combination of GUI and Database.
You also can use access as front end for other (odbc - compliant) databases,
making it just a dabase front end. Tin 99,99999999999999(ect) %
of the cases, this frontend thingy is what people mean with an 'Access
database'. (very few realy care about the engine underneath, as long as it
works.
Access database on its own (Withouth the forms, reports and visual basic
scripting) is only a marginal interesting thing. It is quite vunable to
errors (or atleast is still was in Access 2000)
