Database "Error"

This might classify as a windows thing, not just an Access thing
because it effects any program that uses a database, even if Access in
installed or not...
Windows XP Home, sp3, Office XP sp3: recently started having a
problem with not just Access databases but being able to open a
program that uses an "Access based form of database" (a program that
doesn't require Access installed, yet uses an access based database) I
first noticed it yesterday when I tried to open my Photoshop Album
program and it failed. I went to by database of "program discs" (to
find where my adobe disc was to reinstall it) and access was all
screwed up too.

I totally removed office XP, reinstalled and still get the following
error: When I open a database and click on a table or form it pops up
(the yellow exclamation mark) "Unknown" that's it, Unknown (then it
gets the "Access must close now...").
I knew the Adobe used an access based form of database and even after
reinstalling, it's error says: when I open the program it says "The
ODBC data source reported the following error: internal error, data
not found"

The databases work fine (both Access and Adobe) on my laptop that
hasn't been cleaned with the CCleaner so I know it's not just the DB's
themselves.

Is there something in the registry I should look fore to change or put
back if it's missing?

Is your system free from error?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

you might try a
system restore point

to see if the system
becomes stable with
an prior restore point.

make one for today,
so you can then bring
the system forward,

if needed.

another thing I would
initiate after removing
office or any program
would be to run the
registry cleaner called
"eusing".

I did the system restore, mine only go back about 5 days... aparently
not far enough so I did an "Undo last recovery"

Here is the error from Aplications tab:

I'm still puzzled why other applications with databases won't open,
even with Office XP and Access completely uninstalled. (yet it leaves
no error report)

D

db

yeah,

not sure why as to
why the corruption
is occurring.

it seems to me that
it may not be as much
to msaccess but with
the highly complex
visual basic.

also, corruption result from
anti virus's because they zap
files that they may not
recognize or prevent the
execution of files,

like macros and vb.

and yet, older programs
can overwrite current files
as well.

--------------

since you uninstalled your
office xp, I would also
uninstall photoshop.

then run eusing to ensure
there are no keys left behind
pertaining to the two programs.

afterwards, try to re install
photo shop because it
is designed to work w/o
msaccess.

Already uninstalled Office, then reinstalled Adobe same problem (while
office was not installed). Even upgraded the adobe, still problem.

looks greek to me too.

since you don't have office
installed, then we know that
it wasn't office that was corrupting
your system.

-----------------

if you run "eusing" it will
clear out any registry
keys that are not linked
to any files on the disk.

-----------------

what you might want to
consider is to uninstall
sp3, via a/r programs.

in doing so, it will restore
your sp2 files.

it will be like a restore point.

then, whatever was installed
in sp3 that is corrupting your
system will likely cease to
function as well.

if not, then you can run a
repair installation with your
sp2 xp cd.

I was thinking that was my only hope, since I've tried the latest
update to JET but that said I already had the newest version.
Can I reinstall SP3? or do I have to uninstall it first, the reinstall
it?
BTW I don't have an xp-cd, I have OEM (HP on the D: partition)

D

db

yeah,

sp3 can be reinstalled,
if needed.

----------------

some oem's are restore
disks and do not provide
a "repair installation".

so it is unclear if you can
rely on your disk to repair
your windows "or" it simply
provides a factory restore.

ideally, you would like to
initiate the option to
uninstall sp3 so that your
former sp2 system files
can be restore and overcome
the problem you have now.

if by chance you had some
rogue software that would
also corrupt your sp2 system,

then a repair installation
would replace any missing
or corrupted system files on
the hard disk with genuine
ones from the cd.

you can also borrow a
winxp cd to perform a
repair installation.

----------------

what you might want
to consider since you
have a functioning
computer, is to backup
or copy your personal
files off the hard disk or
onto another partition.

you can upload 25gigs
of data for free to
microsoft's skydrive
website/server.
