Dropdown lists created with Data Validation, but this time message doesn't
show when cell selected neither does the error message and the cell allows
any value to be entered. Both are selected

Does the dropdown list appear when you select the cell?

Is the data validation cell in a frozen part of the worksheet?

Which version of Excel are you using?

Hi,
You must created the data validation list in the same
sheet and everytime you add more rows in this sheet, they
will make the validation list out of the validation range.
Exp: the validation list on row 100 to 105. If you add 5
more rows in this sheet, the validation list will be move
to row 106 to 110.
The better way to create the data validation list in
different worksheet.
1. In the new worksheet Create the company list in column.
2. Insert\Name\Define\Name in workbook, type the name you
decide exp: COMPANY\ Refers to: select the list\click ok
3. On the orginal workbook select the cell\go to Data
\Validation\select settings tab\
*in Allow choose list
*in Source type =COMPANY
*click OK
Now on the cell you just select, you will see the drop
down list of the COMPANY

The data validation list can be on a different worksheet, as long as it
is named, and the name is used in the data validation dialog box..

It is in a different worksheet and I named it and used the name in the data
validation dialog box. I must have expressed myself crippled. It works as
good I expect it to do, but the signs for Input Message and Error alert does
not show and does not work neither.

I'm experiencing some problems with my "microsoft.public.excel.worksheet.functions" and I had not got all the answers. I already have sent: It is in a different worksheet and I named it and used the name in the data validation dialog box. I must have expressed myself crippled. It works as good I expect it to do, but the signs for Input Message and Error alert does
not show and does not work neither. Xl 2003. What is a "frozen part". It is protected usually, but I reassign the protected and unprotected cells with a macro in this case. I have these drop down lists where the cells usually is protected. The macro unprotect these cells with drop down lists and they can be assigned from there.

Hi Patrik

copy & paste the validation to another cell (copy & paste special -
validation) and see if it works there, if not remove it & try again - if
that fails, if you email me the file direct (julied_ng @ hctsdotnetdotau)
i'ld be happy to look at it for you

Cheers
