Data Validation Restriction Referencing other Workbook

Following procedure to link Data Validation list to another workbook -
dialogue box message appears "You may not use references to other worksheets
or workbooks for data validation criteria". I am using Excel 2003. Any
suggestions are greatly welcomed! Jim

Give your list a name, select the list and do insert>name>define and type in
a name for instance MyList

then use

Allow>list

=MyList
