Back in the DOS days, format.exe used to save recovery information. I think
microsoft later realised (after /Q became the switch of choice) that people
only format discs that are intended to be formatted, and made this function
obsolete. Who woulda thought...

ps: not sure what precautions have been taken towards post-format recoveries
with XP. Still trying to cling to the blissful stability of 98se (although,
I think they've removed the format recovery there too). XP is still my
guinea pig, right now.
