Running Win XP, up-to-date on updates, strong A/V & Firewall protection.
Getting Data Execution Prevention message for Spooler App from Microsoft, and
Windows is shutting it down. Been getting a similar notification but no
shutdown message on a third-party application. Whats up with this?

So this happening on a Microsoft program is just one of those things?

Guess so, among other programs I have MMC, and Windows Installer
exempted.

Right click on "My Computer" - Properties - Advanced - Performance
settings - DEP

It is most likely your printer driver causing the DEP error with the
spooler. See if the manufacturer has a newer driver.

Something has caused both of them to attempt executing data. Executing data
is one of the favorite ways for hackers to enter your system. And, their
favorite targets are programs like spoolsrv.

Perhaps you have malware on your system that your A/V system has not
identified. None of the anti-virus products find all virus infections.
And, of course, you could have some other kind of malware (which products
like spybot and adaware are intended to intercept).

I would get David Lipman's programs to examine your system in detail. I am
not saying that you necessarily have malware, but in the case of these two
programs, it pays to be safe.

On my system, every now and then Explorer tries to execute data. To date,
this attempt was prevented by DEP. As explorer gets messages from wherever,
it is a favorite target as well.

I read through the explanation but not sure if I follow it all. The DEP
error message comes on and locks up my system in several areas but are not
applications so I don't know how to turn it off. One of them is in my F:
drive which is a secondary drive I put in so I could download video from my
camcorder which takes up lots of space. When I click on my F icon and it
opens it up to show me the folders, the DEP error message pops up. How can I
turn this off? Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is very
irritating.

Thanks!!!
