Data Base Size

I have a data base that just recently exceeded 1.4 MB which keeps me from
saving it on a floppy in its present state. I opened a new data base and
copied my tables from the old data base into the new data base, and the size
dropped by at least one half. What causes the old data base (which is used
all the time for just data entry) to be that much larger and is there some
way to condense the size?
Thanks,

As you add data, remove data, add new reports, delete reports etc a database
will grow. If you use Compact and Repair on the database it will recapture
some of this deleted space used by removed data. Depending on your version
of Access will determine if you see Compact or Compact and Repair. Check
under Tools | Database utilities. The safest way is issue the Compact and
Repair when the database is not open and selecting it through the Dialog
box, giving it a new name from the old database. Once you compact/repair it
and close it down successfully you can rename it back to the original. Of
course you have to rename the original first before using the same database
name.
