DEAR ALL,

I want my data to be accessed by some specific people in the LAN, is
there anyway i cant protect my Folder? or some other techinques ???

You should ask your server/network administrator to
create an appropriate set of permissions for your folder.

Networked PCs are in most cases linked by a hub or a switch.
The connection method does not affect your permission settings.
As I mentioned, your network administrator will help you with
these settings.

A peer to peer network, you mean?

Sure, you can set file permissions and passwords for a folder too.
 
hi,

let me more clearify this. we are three user connected to the switch
there s no Server at all, and i have shared one folder, and i want this
folder to be accessed by one of my friends not by both HOW I CAN DO
THAT.

On each WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. To rephrase, identical (as in username/password) accounts must
exist on each machine. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s),
and you will be able to access the designated shares, provided your
network is configured properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in
firewall is either disabled on the internal LAN connection, or set to
allow exceptions for File and Print Sharing.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
