Damaged / Failed WD 80GB Hard Drive

Hello:

I've had a WD (Western Digital) 80GB hard drive fail.

The drive (secondary or D: drive) still 'appears' under 'My
Computer' (Win98)
Double clicking on this drive gives a 'Device not available' error
window.
Properties shows 0 bytes total and 0 bytes available.

Running the WD diagnostics (DLDIAG 4.12) shows no errors!!

There was about 40G of data on this disk last time I looked (about a
week ago).

Can anyone recommend a recovery process/software so I do not have to
resort to a data recovery service?

Thanks in advance for your help,
TomCee

I like Easy Recovery Pro, but it aint cheap if you have to pay for it.
