daily automatic updates

I am using XP home edition. Every day for about the past
two weeks I receive an automatic windows update which I
download and install. It used to be I would receive an
update once every month or two, so I think something is
wrong. The first day of this series, the update required
that the computer be restarted after installation, but
that has not been required for all subsequent updates.
Is something wrong that is causing daily updates? If so,
how fix? Thanks.

When you say you are "receiving" daily updates, how are you "receiving"
them?

The updates are downloaded automatically, and I am
informed of them by a small icon in the lower right
corner of my screen. When they are fully downloaded, a
message box appears, advising me that the update is ready
to be installed.
