D-Link Wireless Router and DHCP Problems

B

Billy Barule

I have a D-Link DI-614+ Wireless router/firewall. It is configured to
be a DHCP Server. It is able to serve an address to the hard-wired
computer that is connected to one of the switch ports.
It also decides to serve the other 99 available IP Address to an
unknown MAC Address. It's the same MAC Address every time:
52-41-53-20-00-C0. I have WEP enabled, and know that I am not getting
hijacked; this has been happening since day one of the installation,
and even when I disable the wireless connection completely.
I've tried upgrading the Firmware, with no luck.
Rebooting the device clears the DHCP table, and I can then get my
wireless laptop an IP Address. But, if I wait a while before
reconnecting to the network (it's at home; I don't use the laptop
there all the time), the address is released, and given back to the
unknown MAC Address.
I'm running Windows XP; someone from D-Link mentioned that the DHCP
Server got a little screwey with XP Clients on the network, anyone
heard of this???

HELP!

This almost sounds like a neighbor or someone is hijacking
your connection. I have the same DLink router and have
not seen this problem. Double check and make sure your
Wep is enabled. Change your SSID to something else other
then default, also turn over the option to broadcast your
SSID out. You can set up your Dlink to accept only
connections from specified MAC addresses. I can't tell
you exactly how to do it (I'm not at my home system right
now) You can also the number of DHCP addresses that are
put out. If you have say 3 computers. Set the DHCP so
that it will only issue out 3 ip address and reject any
others that try to connect. I know I've read where these
wireless networks can be hijacked and broken into but if
you set all the options that I've suggested, you would
almost have to have someone parked out in front of your
house for a very long time before they could successfully
break into the system. Good luck. If you'd like some
further assistance email me at (e-mail address removed)

Not that I know of although I had been unlucky with the setup tool for
my D-Link router here as well. I ended up with disabling the DHCP
server and assigning fixed IP addresses to my network adapters.
