D: Drive--FAT 32--out of space

I was having major difficulty loading new programs. So, I uninstalled sp1 and
reinstalled it (of course that ended up not being easy, but I finally got
it). Anyway, now that I have SP1 back in, my d:drive is running at 31 1/2 mb
and keeps coming up with a message saying it is out of space. With hidden
files showing, explorer lists it at somewhere around 22 mb, but the drive
properties has it at full. Where is the other filled space coming from? Also
system info is about 21 mb. Is that the right size for it? I understand I
can't expand the partition beyond 32 mb. So what am I supposed to do. There
are no frivolous files on that drive, and I assume they all need to stay
there. Help? Sorry, I consider myself fairly savvy, but am certainly not an
expert.

When XP is first installed the disk structure really only
contains:
c:\documents and settings\
c:\program files\
c:\windows\
c:\system volume information\ * space used by system restore *
c:\recycler\ * recycle bin *

Most anything else, either you, or your pc vendor installed
or put there.

In general, run disk cleanup and check the space allocated to
system restore. Reduce it to reclaim some space.

32 mb drives have been obsolete for about 14 years now! We are now up into
hundreds of gigabytes! Hell, I had a 130 mb drive in 1993. (-:
