I have W XP-Pro in a Dell 8100. New installation.
Lately, after about 10-20 minutes of use, with either
Word 97 or Outlook Exp 6, and maybe with other apps--not
sure-- the harddrive starts to cycle in about 1-sec
bursts. Does not interfere with operation on screen of
any app, but no mattter what, until I reboot, I can hear
the hard drive buzzing for a second, then silent for a
second, then buzzing, etc., over and over again. It's as
if locked in some feedback loop or unproductive search???
If I look at processes ongoing (C-Alt-Del, etc.) I
see "system idle process" and "findFast.exe" both
changing number readouts slightly in time with this
cycle. Can anyone suggest a fix, as I think it unduly
wears on my harddrive? Thanks.
