Customizing the System Tray Date/Time

Hey this is just a hair off topic, but I've been looking for way to
display the date as well as the time in the WinXP system tray. Finally
found a great program with hundreds of different skins that displays
date, time, day of week etc. Really nice and quick install. Check it
out at http://www.drive-software.com/clocktrayskins.html.

To display the Date and Time all you have to do is drag the Taskbar to
double height.

Or leave your mouse for a second or two and the date appears. At least it
works for me (and I prefer this since it saves desktop space)

For Wes- thanks but dragging the tasktray to doubleheight only display
the day of the week, not the date (it displays on hover but that's no
convenient for a quick glance). It appears you do need a thirdpart
plugin to actually show the date- odd...

If there is room it will show what it can (except seconds for performance reasons). If you change sizes in the GUI the control panel adjusts other sizes as well. You can edit in registry and make font smaller, titlebar bigger, icons bigger and some variant of that and you can see more.

Look around
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
Negative numbers are in twips. 20 twips to the point. 72 pt to the inch (25.4 mm). A screen inch is
Resolution (in px) / DPI

So at 1024 x 768 at 96 dpi a screen is 10.7" (271 mm) x 8" (203 mm). Therefore 1/8th of a vertical screen is 1 inch or 1440 twips. 1440 twips is 1/8th of the vertical height on a small 14 in monitor or on a large 23" monitor. It is a virtual inch.

I've included a web page you can set as a desktop item to display day, date, and time. Copy Of Clock.htm is the file and doesn't use any others. Clock.htm and it's related files are also incl. It includes a telephone message app that you may like to adapt.
