Customizing shortcuts on different users

R

Ron

I have four users setup on XP. Each user would like to
have his own set of desktop shortcuts. However, anytime I
delete one on one account it deletes it on the other
users. How can I delete in only one account.

Thanks in advance

Hi Ron,

The desktop shortcuts are stored at:

For a specific user at:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Desktop

For all users at:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

The users sees the shorcuts stored at the first location and as well as in the second location.
Edit/delete as neccessary.

On XP you have 2 different types of profiles. An "All
Users" profile and each users profile.

The "All Users" profile does just that. Anything in this
profile is available to all users. It sounds like this
shortcut you are refering to exists in all users.

If you look in C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Desktop you will see the items that are available
to all users. If you want these shortcuts only available
to one or more user you would want to copy the shortcut
to C:\Documents and Settings\{UserName}\Desktop and then
delete the shortcuts on All Users. This will make the
shortcut just show up on that individual user.
