customizing desktop/ dual monitors

I use an ATI 9700 pro with 2 monitors. I like to keep my icons and task bar
on the secondary display. Swiching resolutions send the icons to the
primary.
Every time my wife plays her favorite game, which forces a resolution
change, the icons go back to the primary display. Even though she is logged
on as a different user and I am logged off. Is there someway to lock my
desktop the way I like it?

Yes and No. Your wife is the culprit that causes your desktop to change the setup. Using two video cards will probably solve your problem. Go to below website for many answers to your situation.
