From Outlook 2003 tool bar, I go to "Tools", "Customize" and select the
"Options" tab. The check box for "Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on
two rows" is grayed out. Is there a fix for this?

There is no Formatting Toolbar in the main Outlook window so the option is
not available either.

Tips of the month:
-What do the Outlook Icons Mean?
-Create an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 1

Answering years later - I hope JBK figured it out by now. But for anyone else:

This may sound odd and a bit roundabout, but close Outlook and open your
WORD program; look in Tools, Customize, Options and be sure the option you
want is checked or unchecked there. Then open Outlook and see if you can make
the change now. (What you want to do in Outlook is actually an option in Word
- Outlook's mail message editor.) Good luck!

No, that is not it. The reason why it is greyed out because Outlook simply
doesn't have a Formatting toolbar. Once you are composing an email with
either Word or Outlook as the editor you can enable it as those screens have
a Formatting toolbar.

Can you explain that a little more? I've spent the last couple of days
trying to get my toolbar in outlook "re-enabled." I've read everything I can
in this discussion group. I just can't figure out why all if a sudden this
happened. I've tried resetting the toolbar, blah, blah, blah - nothing works.
It was like that in Microsoft Word too, but somehow I fixed it there. In
Outlook its greyed out regardless of the rich text/html option. Please help
before I cut off my arm with a butter knife ;-)

What part is confusing? The main Outlook window doesn't have a formatting
toolbar so there is nothing to enable. Once you start typing a new message
you can enable the formatting toolbar for that window since the composing
screen has formatting features.
