Customising dialog file boxes

Using Win XP sp2 and MS Office XP

In the left side bar of open/save dialog boxes are a list of default
options. I want to change the list of icons/ text and pointers to the
relevant directories on various drives around the organisation. I used
TweakUI to customise the Places bar. This made no change to the dialog boxes
in Word or Excel.

But it did change the open dialog boxes for Adobe Reader 7 and Endnote. The
text captions were unfortunately arbitrarily chosen by the software. Now all
have the same name of Velson, since my folders on the different drives have
the same name to aid other users in finding files relevant to my work.

So:
1. How should one apply the dialog box changes to MS Office programmes?

2. How does one specify meaningful text to go with each link?

Thank you for your help.

In Word 2003 you can navigate to the directory, then use the "Add to my
places" entry in the "Tools" menu (at the far right) in the dialog box.

Thank you for the help. The OPiE utility did the job well.

In contrast, using TweakUI does not give a coherent reaction. I had tried to
change the place bar settings (see previous mailing) but the change was only
registered in Adobe and Endnote, not in Word or Excel. The "Add to places"
option on Tools was greyed out in these. When I used TweakUI to change the
setting to default. the Adobe dialog box place bar changed back to default,
but Word still retained the greyed out option.

I think TweakUI needs to be tweaked.
