custom label problem

Greetings -

I have never used this function before, so please bear with me!

I am using non-Avery labels to create spine labels for my library.
These labels are 1" high by .75" wide. I have set up this definition,
and created the label using the custom label function. However, when
I set the horizonal pitch to be .75, my text moves progressively to
the right of the page, with the final text in a row being chopped in
half!

I have fiddled with the pitch to correct, and I just can't get this to
work.

Does anyone have suggestions about what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks very much in advance.

What's the page size of the label sheet, do the labels touch one another,
and how many labels are across and down?

The sheet is 8.5 x 11; the labels do touch one another; and there are
10 labels across and 10 labels down.

Start with the following settings:
Top margin .5"
Side margin .5"
Vertical pitch 1"
Horizontal pitch .75"
Label height 1"
Label width .75"
Number across 10
Number down 10
Page size Letter (8.5 x 11)

From the label tool, create New document
Select the table and add borders to the cells.
Check the alignment in print preview.
If it looks OK, print to plain paper.
Hold the paper over a label blank sheet.
Chances are that the top or side margin are slightly adrift. Note the amount
of discrepancy and remove it from the label setting. Repeat the print test
above with the revised settings. You should be able to hit the spit at the
second or third attempt.

Thanks - finally got it working! It turns out the left margin needed to be .55

Thanks again,

Aimee :)
