Custom Fields

Thanks for the suggestions for BCM alternatives.

I'm so thankful I found this thread before I wasted any more time trying to
set up BCM at a client site. The idea was to replace Top Producer with BCM,
but without the ability to use custom fields for mail merger or any other
filtering for that matter is a deal killer. Even for Microsoft this is a huge
miss that belongs in the category of "WTF were you thinking?"

Hi James -- Most of the posts in this thread are quite old, so the info may
not be quite accurate. With Outlook 2007 BCM, you can add custom fields, and
those fields are available for mail merge if the merge is initiated from the
Tools | Mail Merge menu within Outlook (i.e. not initiated from within Word).
Hope that helps.

Sure enough--thanks for the info. I'm still disappointed that the merge must
be done in Outlook in order to see the custom fields, and then only with
Word. My client has been using Publisher to create their marketing pieces--it
seems I'll have to File.Export a CSV file to use for the merge from within
Publisher. Not as dismal as these older threads led me to believe, but still
not perfect integration. Hopefully Microsoft is listening.

TEchnically you are half-right but in reallity all wrong.

You can add user fields at the bottom of the form but you cannot use them
You CAN NOT make your forms readable to your use or create a new form with
the BCM data with any ease. I waish I had stayed with the horrible product
ACT and this BCM is worse.

The date in BCM is not displayable as many of the fields do not show in
areas like the To-Do-List so when you post a task you cannot say for what BCM
project.
