Custom Animation: How to make an obejct disappear after a while

CP

I have a slide with 2 ovals and a few other objects (say a
few lines). Using custom animation,
first I want the two ovals to appear;
then these lines to appear;
then I want to show that as these lines move in certain
directions; at the same time; the ovals shrink (i.e. as
the lines change directions, the ovals should get smaller)
I know how to get the ovals & lines to appear and the
lines to move but I but I don't know how to make the ovals
to shrink simultaneously.
One options is to create the multiple size ovals and make
them appear in the sequence I want but then the bigger
size oval does not disappear when the smaller size oval
appears.
Any idea how to do this?

Which version of PowerPoint do you use? This should be easy to achieve with
PowerPoint 2002 or 2003. For older versions you'll have to use workarounds
with multiple objects or even multiple slides.

I have Powerpoint 2000.
As I wrote earlier, I can use multiple ovals (of different
sizes) to get the effect of a shrinking oval but I don't
know how to make the bigger oval disappear and smaller
oval appear only after a line has changed the direction
3rd time.
In powerpoint 2000: I can select effect on start of
animation or after animation but not on the 3rd action
after start of animation.
Can someone help me there?

In PPT 2000 you don't have Exit animations as in later versions. You can
make an object disappear by covering it with an object in background color.

Using PPT 2000 the easiest method is to duplicate your slide. On the second
slide delete the text that is to disappear on the first mouse click, remove
any animations, and set its slide transition to random bars, dissolve or
other. Duplicate the second slide and delete the text that is to disappear.
Repeat for as many text boxes need to "disappear." When running the
slideshow there is no visual way of knowing that multiple slides are being
seen, it just appears that one slide has the text disappearing from it.

Ute - I have the same problem of using 2000. I have a pyramid with text in
each area. I need to have the text "disappear" when you click on it. Can you
tell me how to cover the text box when you click on it? Each box in the
pyramid is a different color and all the text is black.

Hi Patti,

Clicking *ON* an object to make it disappear is only possible from PPT
version 2002 onwards. But you can create trapezoids of the size and color of
your pyramid areas without the text and integrate them into the animation
order so they appear when you want your text to DIS-appear.

.... or you could upgrade to PPT 2002 or 2003 of course - it's worth it ;-)

Kind regards,
Ute

I must be really stupid because I STILL haven't been able to figure this out. I am running XP so have no problem on my end. Problem is my my client only has 2000 (upgrading isn't an option right now) so i need to be able to do this in 2000.
In this triangle, the text in each object represents a topic. This will be a classroom environment and topics will be chosen by the class in random order.
I duplicated slide one, removed animations, selected random bars for slide transition, then deleted the text box from one of the triangles. I then duplicated the 2nd slide and deleted a different text box, so slide 1 has 12 text boxes, slide 2 has 11 and slide 3 has 10, etc. Each time I click on a text box, I need to have a slide that displays which boxes have been selected thus far. If I click on box 5, I need to see a slide with all but the text in box 5. If I then click on box 9, I need to see a slide that is missing the text in those 2 boxes and so on. What I get is that no matter "where" I click, the text boxes "disappear" in the order that I deleted them. Thanks again for the assistance. Sorry to sound so dense.

I forgot to mention, I also tried covering text boxes with trapezoids like another user suggested, but no matter what action I said to take and in what order, either the object doesn't cover the textbox or the text isn't on the screen to start with...it appears when i click, then disolves, so i didn't do so well with this method either. I'm pretty good with Word, Excel and Access 2002, but Powerpoint 2000 is very humbling. someone please help this idiot!

You're going to have a hard time doing this in PPT 2000 because of the
random choices. If you knew the order you need things to disappear in, that
would be at least doable (but still tedious).

I have a feeling you're going to have to use VBA for this one,
Patti--unless, of course, you can convince your client to show the
presentation using the new PPT Viewer. It will display those animations you
set in PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP), so you could use PPT 2002's triggers and exit
animations to easily create this type of random selection.

Here's a link to the new Viewer, in case that's an option.

Hi Patti,

I just read in your answer to Troy that you additionally have to show the
different combinations of hidden text. This would produce HUNDREDS of slides
in PPT 2000 - is it worth the effort?

Another thought: In "Tools | Options | Edit" you can temporarilydeactivate
the new animation features, so you get a feeling what can be done in PPT
2000 - did you do that? It will make life easier when working for a client
with an older version.

Kind regards,
Ute

Echo S - I got the presentation like they wanted it using exit effects and PPT 2002 triggers; then downloaded the viewer and it's perfect!. Thank you so much.
