It is unlikely that this is connected to the cursor. It is rather that
your system has locked up. Unfortunately, since you didn't provide any
information about your computer, it is impossible to give you a
specific answer. Did the system ever work properly after you upgraded
it to XP? From what operating system did you upgrade it? Was the
machine healthy then? Did you run the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor and
was the hardware/software on your computer compatible with XP? Are you
running a current antivirus and keeping the machine free of spyware?

Post back with the necessary details for help with your problem.

Locks can be caused by many things, including old video drivers,
spyware, lack of a tuneup in some while, viruses running, low disk
space, not enough ram for XP, etc., etc., etc.

One to try (as the cure is easy) - it is quite often a result of the
mouse driver and the video driver arguing over which controls the
pointer. Control Panel - Display - Settings, Click Advanced, and on
the Troubleshoot page reduce the acceleration slider one notch or two.
If one does it, there is negligible loss of performance: if two are
needed look for updated video drivers from the maker's site.
