If I leave the computer (Windows XP) unattended until it "goes to sleep",
when I try to "wake it up". the cursor freezes and I have to reboot.

This is an intermittent problem, but annoying.

How can I determine what is happening? How can I fix it?
Please Help

Try each of these (#2 recommended on this board for the same issue).

1) Unplug the mouse from the USB port and plug it back in.

2) In Device Manager, right click on each usb root hub, go to properties,
power, and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save
power".

3) In Device Manager, right click on the HID mouse, go to properties, power
and check "allow this device to bring computer out of standby.

#1 is a temp fix so you don't have to reboot. #2 and/or #3 should fix the
problem permanently.

Hope this helps.
