Cursor displays strangely in .docs

Hi

My cursor has the standard 'girder on its side' shape and becomes a long
line when I click on a .doc

Except that now, it has become a short line, almost invisible between
letters.

I've tried 'display' options but can't find a way to change it back

Any ideas please?

Zoom to 500% then back to your usual setting.
