Curser hidden

When I start a new word doc. the curser does not show until I start typing.
As well the show/hide symbol then pops up as well. I am very, very
inexperienced so any help would be appreciated, please try to dumb it up for
me as well.

You first need to tell us which version of Office and of Windows is involved,
otherwise we have no where to start...
