Current Monitors & maybe TV's will become Obsolete?

I came away with a different angle on this
The PC industry needs a ubiquitous digital interface with optional content
protection that may be deployed >widely at minimum cost to enable broad
access to premium content. The DisplayPort standard addresses this >need by
providing an optional secure method to protect both image and audio content.

Seems this is a step toward TCPA with all this emphasis on 'protecting image
and audio content'.....

Huh? What did they say? More jargon. Makes my
tail stand straight up too. Tighten up my purse
strings another knot. Why don't they make something
that actually works, and is affordable?

Because the industry actually thinks it is in charge of what
we buy. Kind of like General Motors and Ford. They are so
big and conceited that they think they will dictate to us
what we like and what we will buy. Oh, one of them is on the
edge of bankruptcy, isn't it? Gee, does this mean that they
are wrong? <G>

I'll stick with my old equipment until they get over this
copy protection kick. I'm also waiting for the prices to
drop into the realistic arena for purchase.

I haven't bought a new stereo in thirty years. Why? Because
some moron decided that hearing bass was evil and they
eliminated it from the newer stereos.

My Marantz, the one that I bought back in 1975, is working
just fine and it lets me hear all of the bass that I want.
They can shove their culture shaping ideas where the sun
doesn't shine. I'll just keep buying old gear and listening
to what I please and how I please.

Ditto TV. There's really nothing on TV, other than Amanda
Tapping, that I care to see anyway. The movies that are
being produced are shallow, even the Sci-Fi. I hate vampire
stories. Talk about preposterous.

The news is no longer the news, but thinly disguised
infomercials and human interest stories, laced with PC and
other silliness. TV? It died years ago. Stuff it.

Ah ... so that is the "problem" that needs to be "solved"?

Does it occur to anyone that most people don't use their computers to
pirate movies or CDs?

Because you don't need one

I have one hyphenated word for ya...sub-woofer. Although my 2yr old Technics
home theater has a separate 'bass' control. And holy shit dude that's all
you ever hear kids listening to, sounds like a tribal percussion war dance.
I especially like my house windows vibrating at 3 am from some kid in his
40$ car with the 2000$ audio system with the 14'' woofer were the back seat
should be. Shocking when you see the baby carseat strapped in next to it.

Does your old gear still play radio from 1975?

I wonder what percetage of video entertainment includes vampires?

Being a musician, I have a garage full of bass amps, guitar
amps and sound reinforcement gear. If I wanted to, I could
give those few cars with loud stereos a taste of their own
medicine x 10. However, I do value what little hearing I
have left. Not to mention that I don't want to be
responsible for cracking my neighbor's foundation or
breaking their windows.

What really ticks me off is the fairly recent trend of
rolling off the bass when tunes are digitally remastered for
CD's. They act as though they are doing you a favor. I
simply do not get it. Why is this advertised as a good
thing? If I buy a CD of old tunes, I want it to sound the
same as they did before. I don't want someone rolling off
the bass to suit their tastes.
Does your old gear still play radio from 1975?

Yes, when I broadcast my 1975 music via FM transmitter from
my computer to my Marantz' FM tuner. Frankly, I don't care
much for that music any longer. Even I have moved on.
Unfortunately, outside of Black music, most Anglo oriented
music these days doesn't have much bass ,content. The
younger folks these days are playing lead guitar one octave
lower. Not bass.

Rap is not music, so it doesn't count, even though there is
a lot of sporadic low frequency content.
I wonder what percetage of video entertainment includes
vampires?

Actually, quite a bit, since I'm not into soaps, reality TV
or sitcoms.

Some of the vampire content is thinly disguised, but the
idea is the same. Such as the Wraith in Star Gate Atlantis.

Thanks for talking. I feel better now.
