Current day field in a .DOT template

Hi group,
I have a .DOT template that I use every day.
In that template, there is a DATE field that I need to fill in every
single day.
I've tried to make that date automatic in the document, unfortunately,
when I use the "automatically update", the date will change even after
the template is saved to a .DOC file. (so if I open the file on monday
for example, it will show monday, then I save it to a .DOC file, and
if I open that file again on thursday, the Date field will be updated
to thrusday)

So I'd like that field to be updated to the current date when I open
the template, and KEEPS THAT DATE when I save the file to .DOC.

Anybody can tell me the correct way to do that?

Thanks a lot!

In the template (and in any already-existing documents), change the DATE
field to a CREATEDATE field -- see
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/DateFields.htm. In the template
itself it will show as the date the template was created; but in documents
based on the template, it will show the date you used the File > New command
and created the document.
