ctrl-alt-del does not close a program

I have recently had a few programs lock up on me, and while Windows XP and
all other programs continue to function normally, the "not responding" dialog
box does not succeed in closing the program. I click "end now", and I get
the error reporting thing, but the window stays open on the screen, in the
task manager, and on the taskbar. The only thing that will close it is if I
shut down the computer. Running XP SP2, no strange downloads or anything,
just Norton, AIM, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Second, click on the item and click go to process, right click on the
process and click end task. What processes are specifically giving you
troubles?
