CSS Newb

I'm in the process of learning CSS and am trying to incorporate it into a new site that I'm building using Frontpage 2000. The problem that I've run into is that I've created the CSS file, and thought that I linked it to the page that I'm working on. The HTML shows that it is linked, but when I try to apply CSS to a font by choosing Format, then Styles, then selecting User-defined styles, it shows nothing. I did link the two using Format > Style Sheet Links. Am I missing something blantly obvious?!?

No. Because of a remarkably bug-like feature, the names
of styles from linked style sheets don't show up in that
dialog box. Either hand-type the name you want, or use
the Style drop-down list on the Formatting toolbar.

In FP2002 the linked styles do appear in the Tool Bar Style Drop Down

Wouldn't he also need to strip away all font tags before applying CSS
styles?

.....unless he likes trial and error ;-)

it's amazing how something like a <B> will stop your style dead in it's
tracks. it's particularly annoying with something dynamic like a shopping
cart or portal.

I guess that I'll go about it using the drop down off of the formatting toolbar. Seems kind of backwards to me to have that work, but not Format > Style.

The mindset seems to be that Format, Styles is for building and
assigning styles in the current page, and not for assigning styles
from linked style sheets.

In FP2003, the Modify Styles dialog box that appears after you click
the Style button in a Properties dialog box does contain named styles
from linked style sheets. This is an improvement over FP2002 and
earlier.
