Crystal Reports and XP SP2

I am using Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2003 to produced a pdf
file and then pushing it out to the browser client using the
methodology described by the Microsoft online documentation. This used
to open a new browser window with the pdf document displayed inside.

However, after a recent spate of security updates, this is now forced
into a file download condition for Acrobat Reader 7. Acrobat Reader 6
is seemingly unusable.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to recreate the
functionality that does not involve the user having to save the pdf
file on the local workstation?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
 
We use CR (version 11) for the same and don't have this problem. I tested
on a PC with XP sp2 + all latest updates using with Acrobat 7 and all of
it's updates. The PDF sent to the client by one of my web apps displays in
the browser without problem. I even set IE security settings to High
(except for enabling downloads) and still works.
I know you said it use to work....but has anything changed in the code?
Are you by chance sending content to client as an attachment?
i.e.
Using CR to export to temporary pdf then writer then
streaming that file to response and setting as attachment in header
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition",
"attachment; filename=myfile.pdf")

or
Using the CR 10/11 method ExportToHttpResponse and setting
asAttachment=True and attachmentName="yourfile.pdf"
 
Hi Lee,

You can use report.ExportToStream
(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat) to export pdf content
to a stream. Then put data in memery and use
Response.Write to pull data to web page.
