Crypt32.cll

I seem to be having a problem with the Crypt32.dll file. I
get error messages that say "The proceedure entry point CryptSignAndEncodeCe
could not be located in the dynamic library CRYPT32.dll" when I try to open
applications like Yahoo Messinger. The problem seems to be
effecting other applications as well, most particularly Internet Explorer. (
I
have IE 7) When I click on a link which should open a new browser window, I
get a "Cant Locate that Page" error in the same window and no other window
opens. In fact, I had to post this question in Firefox because IE wouldnt
open a window for me to post in...just gave me the same " cant find that
page" error. How can I repair the Crypt32.dll file ?

Open a run command and type in:
regsvr32 Crypt32.dll click [OK] then Reboot your machine.

Might be time to run the system file checker (sfc). Run the following
command in a DOS shell:

sfc /scannow

You may need your Windows installation CD if sfc needs to read files
from there. Then follow with a Windows Update session.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Unfortunately, neither worked. The first
one, I got a message telling me the file was there but the entry point was
still missing. For the second one, I typed in the command and was prompted to
put in my CD, which I did. Windows went through a verification process and at
the end, I attempted to do an update. I clicked on EXPRESS, it checked for
updates, then I got a message telling me "The website has encountered a
problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view" Sounds like the
same problem as I am having with IE.

But there is a related problem I neglected to mention. My automatic update
has a problem, too. It keeps installing the same update every time I log
on...or, perhaps, tries to. Then when I reboot, there is the update icon
AGAIN, trying to download the update and prompt me to install it again. Could
this TOO be related to the Crypt32.dll problem? Should I reinstall my system
and see if that fixes everything? I just hesitate to do that, as I would have
to install a years worth of updates as well. Any other suggestions would be
greatly appreciated!

nass...

I followed the path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate, but I
do not seem to have a WindowsUpdate folder in the Windows folder of the
register

I then followed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Services\Update.... in the Update
folder all entries are identical to what you list.

I went through all the register commands and all loaded except I got an
error message for cryptsvc.dll...it read "cryptsvc.dll was loaded but the
DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered"
When I finished entering all the commands, I got a DOS screen that said that
automatic updates was starting. Rebooting had no effect...Updates Icon is
still sitting in my tray.

I next located Cryptographic Services...it is set to automatic

Located Remote Proceedure Call....it is started and set to automatic.

I successfully started and stopped the Cryptography Services using the
commands you relayed....still cannot view the updates page. I found an error
number on the page I am taken to that tells me there is a problem. The number
is 0x8007007F , if that is helpful.

Tried the cryptofix file....ran the script...no change.

Tried cryptsvc.....ran the script...no change.

I think thats everything. Thanks for trying to help....not sure what my next

I attempted to uninstall the Service Pack 2. It went along fine till it got
to the "deleting files" and "copying files" proceedure. Part of the way
through that, I got an error, which stated "The System can not find the
specified file". ....I have NO idea what file it meant. I clicked ok and got
another error window that stated, "The Service Pack 2 was not uninstalled"

What confuses me is that I installed the Service Pack 2 right after I
installed the XP system on the computer....about a year ago. So it wasnt a
recent install.

same problem as I am having with IE.

I seem to be having a problem with the Crypt32.dll file. I
get error messages that say "The proceedure entry point
CryptSignAndEncodeCe
could not be located in the dynamic library CRYPT32.dll" when I try to
open
applications like Yahoo Messinger. The problem seems to be
effecting other applications as well, most particularly Internet
Explorer. (
I
have IE 7) When I click on a link which should open a new browser
window, I
get a "Cant Locate that Page" error in the same window and no other
window
opens. In fact, I had to post this question in Firefox because IE
wouldnt
open a window for me to post in...just gave me the same " cant find
that
page" error. How can I repair the Crypt32.dll file ?

Might be time to run the system file checker (sfc). Run the following
command in a DOS shell:

sfc /scannow

You may need your Windows installation CD if sfc needs to read files
from there. Then follow with a Windows Update session.

It is always helpful if you included the exact error message or the screen
error you get for anyone to be able to help.

You receive a "0x80070002" error code when you download an update from
Windows Server Update Services in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920151
Error message when you try to update a Microsoft Windows-based computer:
"0x80070002"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922582

Open a run command and type in:
regedit.exe click [OK]. locate These keys and compare the Entries to this
here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate =
[ON]DontPromptForWindowsUpdate REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)
[ON]DontSearchWindowsUpdate REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Services\Update =
[ab]DispalyName REG_SZ Microcode Update Driver
[ON]ErrorCotrol REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
[ab]OmagePath REG_DWORD_SZ System32\DRIVERS\update.sys
[ON]Start REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)
[ON]Type REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

2 = Try to Repair your Windows Update Engine, to do that follow these steps
to
reregister the DLLs by opening a Run Command and type these Commands
one-by-one and click [OK] or Hit [Enter]:
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 cryptsvc.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv

Then Restart your machine and try the windows Update website.

You have the Cryptographic services disabled or damaged, try to
repair/reinstall this service:
Open a run command and type in:
services.msc click [OK]
On the services control panel locate this service and make sure it start Auto:

Cryptographic Services
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Right click the above services and select properties, on the properties make
the changes to the start STATUS.
Close the services Control panel, Reboot your machine and start the Update,
does it help?.
Or Open a run command and try to stop and Restart the crypto service by
typing in:
net stop cryptsvc click [OK]
net start cryptsvc click [OK]
Reboot your machine and try the updates site.
If all fail try this VBs script to start the Services:

Thank you both for your suggestions. Unfortunately, neither worked.
The first
one, I got a message telling me the file was there but the entry point
was
still missing. For the second one, I typed in the command and was
prompted to
put in my CD, which I did. Windows went through a verification process
and at
the end, I attempted to do an update. I clicked on EXPRESS, it checked
for
updates, then I got a message telling me "The website has encountered
a
problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view" Sounds
like the
same problem as I am having with IE.

Looks like you are on your way to saving a partition image and then
doing a Windows repair (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341/en-us,
method 2).

Your best option is to back up your Data on a removable disk then try to
perform a Repair for the Operating system.
Note before doing this try to Uninstall the IE7 from the add/remove control
panel and you will get back to IE6 to avoid issue with the repair procedure.

Error codes 0x8007007f OR 0x8007007e can be the result of a problem during
the install of a service pack. After the service pack install you have
missing files, file mismatches, and corrupted files.

To workaround this problem, uninstall the service pack that you recently
installed and reinstall it.

Run Disk CleanUp on your computer first, then try to run the Windows updates

Then open the Windows Explorer and locate this path:

Thanks for trying to help....not sure what my next
step is.

Thank you both! I had no choice but reinstall my system. I got to the point
where Windows wouldnt even boot and I couldnt even access my BIOS. I had to
take the computer to my son so he could reset the BIOS (I dont do hardware:))
and then did a total system reinstall. Everything is pretty much back to
normal now and I am almost done putting my all drivers back in.

I appreciate your input and the time you took to help. Thanks again! :)
